We did it! On 15 September 2017 we launched our third project in Paramaribo, Suriname. 70 teenagers participated and more than 50 % were from Sunny Point. Together with our local partner Kansrijk Suriname and with the support of the Suriname Basketball Association we will continue this project.
We were touched by the teenagers from Sunny Point whose neighborhood has its fair share of challenges. Poverty, abuse, crime and drugs are aspects of everyday life for these teenagers. That's why we opened up our training programs to those teenagers who can’t usually afford to pay for basketball, dance and music workshops and who can use them as an escape from their daily routine. Aside from our main activities, we provided them with food, individual coaching and worked with them on solving local problems so as to enlarge the impact of our program at a personal level and to boost their confidence. We picked the teenagers up from Sunny Point by bus and took them to the center so that they could mix with teenagers from other districts.
10 local dance, basketball, rap coaches and social workers from Paramaribo collaborated with 4 Dutch coaches to share their positive and inspiring skills with the teenagers.
This project is ready to continue and their will be a second project soon. We would like to talk to generous individuals, companies and foundations who are ready to help us increase the impact of Move Forward in Suriname on a long term basis. If you are willing to assist, whether financially or in goods or services, please contact us so that we can find a way to collaborate and make this happen: firstname.lastname@example.org
