In 2017 and 2018 we have launched two dance, basketball, rap projects in Suriname. For 10 days teenagers could join our trainingprogram during the summer holiday for free. All together over 200 teenagers from Sunny Point, Latour and Prasoro have joined the Move Forward project.
We were touched by the teenagers from Sunny Point whose neighborhood has its fair share of challenges. Poverty, abuse, crime and drugs are aspects of everyday life for these teenagers. That's why we opened up our training programs to those teenagers who can’t usually afford to pay for basketball, dance and music workshops and who can use them as an escape from their daily routine. Aside from our main activities, we provided them with food and brainstorm with them on solving local problems to enlarge the impact of our program.
If a third project will happen depends on the local partners and coaches, we like them to find ways to get financial support within Suriname. Move Forward has financially covered the first two projects, if we keep on doing that this project will never continue by itself. If a part will be raised by our local contacts, we will start to raise more money for a new project in Suriname. Watch this video for an impression of our first project: vimeo.com/248157575
