About the program
Move Forward is a Dutch non-profit organization that runs intensive dance, basketball and rap programs aimed at empowering teenagers who are growing up in difficult circumstances.
We have run successful programs in Haiti, the Netherlands and Suriname and plan to launch projects in other countries too.
Each project consists of three parts:
1. TAKE OFF PROGRAM: 10 Days. 1 Tournament. 1 Block Party.
2. CHECK UP: 1 Month. 1 Focus. A local and an international team work together to evaluate the take off program and devise a follow up program that will work in the country in question.
3. FLY PROGRAM: 1 Year. Weekly training sessions and intensive weekends. Plus lifetime individual support for the teenagers who are ready to fly and know where they want to go.
The take off program is the most intensive. Movement drastically changes the lives of the participating teenagers helping them to deal with unprocessed emotions caused by traumatic experiences. Our Dutch and the local team collaborate equally on this program whereas with the fly program our local partners are in charge and are supported by the Dutch team.
DANCE, BASKETBALL AND RAP are the main disciplines of our program. To enlarge their impact we have added:
HEALTHY FOOD: nutritious meals made by locals for all the participants and volunteers.
INDIVIDUAL COACHING to ensure that every teenager is given individual attention and support.
SOLVE A LOCAL PROBLEM: we address specific problems in the neighborhood.
